The Structure of the Grange
The Community (local) Grange is built around the community. Anyone 14 years of age is eligible for membership. Each member has one vote. The local Grange elects its own officers and controls its own affairs in community matters. It confers the first Four Ritualistic Degrees. Blue Spruce Grange is a Community Grange.
The Pomona (regional) Grange is made up of Community Granges within a region which meets on a monthly or quarterly basis. The Pomona Grange offers the Fifth Degree of the order. The local Pomona Grange is the Champlain Valley Grange.
The State Grange is a delegate body representing the Community and Pomona Granges. At their annual conventions, State Granges consider many important matters relating to legislation and public policy, with particular reference to agriculture, other matters of concern to America and the general welfare of the State as a whole. The Sixth Degree of the Order is conferred at these conventions.
The National Grange is the parent body of the Order. All business sessions of the National Grange are open to any Community Grange member in good standing. As spectators, they have no vote in the deliberations, but they do have ample opportunity to appear before committees and to testify. At the annual convention of the National Grange, one day is devoted to the conferral of the Seventh Degree, the highest Degree of the Order.
The Junior Grange consists of young people between the ages of 5 and 14. A Junior Grange consists of a minimum of 13 members who gather together to learn about the Grange, its history and traditions. Projects and contests are geared to the age level of the members.
Junior +1 Program was instituted to allow those Community Granges who had junior-aged applicants to join the Grange, but not enough to form a Junior Grange. Junior +1 members meet with a Junior Director to learn about the Grange, its history and traditions. They are able to participate in all State and National projects and contests.
